LIBRARY SERVICES Library services are available to all McCreary County residents after completing an application for a library card and showing proof of identification. Children need a parent’s consent to become borrowers. Nonresidents may pay a $15.00 per year fee for individual use or $25.00 for a family. Checkout is for 14 days at no charge. Overdue fines are five cents per book per day. Notices are mailed out as a reminder when books are late. Collection: Approximately 40,000 books, audios, and videos. Large Print and Audio Books: A large selection of books with easy to read print and books on tape. Videos: Family entertainment videos for check out free. Reference Service: Our staff makes every effort to answer your reference questions when you come into the library or call with your questions. A large number of reference materials are available for in library use. Genealogy Resources: A large genealogy section is available for those doing research. Public Access Computers and Internet Access: Five computers are available for the public seeking access to new ideas and information. Magazines and Newspapers: Current issues are available for use in a comfortable reading area and past issues may be checked out. Online access to the (Use your library card barcode as the login) issues from August 2008. (More issues will be added later). Online Databases: Access to four online databases from your home computer. Click here for details. World Book Online Reference Center Contains every article from the 22-volume print set plus thousands more. With state-of-the-art multimedia, maps, and editor- reviewed Web sites. Click here to access the reference center. A Community Room is available by reservation to civic groups and various other organizations at no charge. Series meetings are subject to board approval. An elevator is available for handicapped access to the community room.
CUSTOMER CONVENIENCE SERVICES 24 Hour Book Drop located at the main entrance. Copy Machine: Check at the front desk for pricing. Fax Service: (606) 376-3631. Sending charge is $2.00, receiving is 15 cents per page. Microfilm Reader with printer. PROGRAMS: Bookmobile Service is available to county residents. Schedules are announced on the radio daily and printed in the newspaper weekly along with the Library Notes column. For more schedule information on the bookmobile click here. Interlibrary Loans: Books not in the library's collection may be obtained from other libraries at no charge to patrons. McCreary County: a pictorial history depicts the history of the county through a 100 photo display on the walls of the Community Room on the second level of the library. Access to the display may depend on community room use. Story Time for pre-schoolers, 3yrs. old and above, September through April. Click here for more information. Summer Reading Program for children pre-school through sixth grade during the month of July. Pre-registration is required. Winter Reading Program for readers al all ages during the month of February. Family Time: Free programs for the whole family two Thursdays a month at 5:30 p.m. Mystery Book Club: Adults meet the second Thursday of the month at 5:00 pm to read and discuss books.
